No Fault Auto Insurance

You may have heard the terms no-fault insurance or personal injury protection (PIP) insurance, but do you know what they mean for you and your family?

No-fault pays for personal injuries resulting from an auto accident in your covered vehicle, no matter who is at fault for the accident. The coverage only applies to bodily injuries and does not cover damage to your car or other property. It also covers medical expenses for your passengers.

What does no-fault auto insurance protect?

In some states, no-fault insurance is required in addition to your other auto insurance coverage, while other states offer it as optional insurance. Coverage amounts can vary by state, but no-fault could help pay for the following after an auto accident:

  • Medical expenses
  • Loss of wages
  • Funeral expenses
  • Loss of services
  • Child-care expenses

An Emergency Protection Plan could also help with expenses like these.

How do I know if I need no-fault insurance?

No-fault insurance is not offered in all states. Determining whether this type of insurance is right for you could be a non-issue; you're either required to have it, or don't have access to it, though there are a few exceptions to this rule. For example, you are required to accept or reject no-fault in Arkansas and Texas. If you'd like to better understand no-fault coverage, give a Direct Auto agent a call at 1-877-GO-DIRECT.
